🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 batch Whole Wheat Pastry Dough
  • 1 1/2 cups Black Chickpeas
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Mint Leaves
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Amchur Powder
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Lemon Juice

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the whole wheat pastry dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch. Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

  2. 2

Step 2: In a large pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

  3. 3

Step 3: Add the chopped onion and sauté until it is lightly browned. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for another minute.

  4. 4

Step 4: Add the black chickpeas, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Stir well and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  5. 5

Step 5: Add the chopped fresh mint leaves and stir well. Cook for another minute.

  6. 6

Step 6: Add the amchur powder and salt. Stir well and cook for another minute.

  7. 7

Step 7: Brush the pastry dough circles with a little water and sprinkle a pinch of salt on each.

  8. 8

Step 8: Place a tablespoon of the chana masala mixture onto each pastry dough circle, leaving a small border around the edges.

  9. 9

Step 9: Fold the pastry dough in half over the filling and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges and create a decorative border.

  10. 10

Step 10: Brush the tops of the tartlets with a little olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

  11. 11

Step 11: Remove the tartlets from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature

💡 Pro Tips

To prevent the pastry dough from shrinking during baking, make sure to chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. Also, to ensure that the filling is evenly distributed, make sure to stir it well before filling the tartlets. Store the tartlets in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
