Mysore Mushroom Biryani
A rich and flavorful South Indian dish that combines the earthy taste of mushrooms with the aromatic spices of Mysore biryani, a unique take on traditional biryani recipes.
🛒 Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati Rice
- 1 cup Mushrooms
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Cardamom Powder
- 1 tsp Cinnamon Powder
- 1 tsp Coriander Powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 bunch Fresh Cilantro
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tbsp Ginger Paste
- 1 tbsp Garlic Paste

Step 1: Heat oil in a pan and sauté cumin seeds, chopped ginger, and 2 cloves of garlic until fragrant.

Step 2: Add the mushrooms and sauté until they release their moisture and turn golden brown.

Step 3: Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, and a few drops of lemon juice and sauté for 2 minutes.

Step 4: Mix the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Add this to the mushrooms and sauté for 1 minute.

Step 5: Soak the basmati rice in water for 30 minutes and cook it separately. Drain the water and set aside.

Step 6: In a large pot, heat ghee and add a few drops of oil. Layer the cooked rice, mushroom mixture, and repeat this process until all the ingredients are used up.

Step 7: Place the pot on a hot tava and cook for 10 minutes, sealing the edges with a damp cloth.

Step 8: Serve hot and garnish with fresh cilantro.
💡 Pro Tips
Use a non-stick pot to prevent the rice from sticking. Soak the rice for at least 30 minutes to cook evenly. Don't overmix the mushroom mixture to preserve the texture.
